Great Outdoor Activities in St. Augustine

St. Augustine and St. Johns County offers many opportunities for outdoor activities. Of course, our miles of beautiful beaches are one of the prime reasons, people flock here for vacations, but check this list for other activities that are available.

Bird and Wildlife Watching/Nature Walks

Biking

Historic St. Augustine is bicycle friendly with many public bike racks available. You may find during the busy time of year, walking your bike is a courtesy to walkers. There are also bike paths along State Road A1A in St. Augustine Beach. Can’t bring your bike? There are several bike rental businesses in the local area.

You can always ride a bike on our beautiful beaches. Anastasia State Park offers biking on the beach or on the park roads.

St. Johns River-to Sea Loop features 260 miles of biking and hiking trails. You can look at this link for more information on this trail. 

Lehigh Greenway Rail Trail - This popular trail was created where a historic railway corridor used to run in Flagler County just south of St. Augustine. 

Palatka to St. Augustine Trail - This 12-foot-wide, 19 mile-long, paved trail runs through a scenic rural agricultural area. While you can begin your ride from several access points, starting in St. Johns County and traveling into Putnam County is the popular route due to the ample parking at the eastern trailheads and the opportunity to visit the designated Florida Trail Town of Palatka.

Dining

Many restaurants in St. Augustine are offering outside dining, take-out, and curbside pick-up. However, an increasingly popular option is food trucks which are located in various locations. With water, water everywhere in St. Augustine, there are boundless opportunities for enjoying time on and in the water – swimming, surfing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, para-sailing, etc.
